We are like sheep: vulnerable, weak, and in need of leadership. Unlike many so-called shepherds who take advantage of the sheep for their own gain, Jesus is the good shepherd who lays down his life so that we might truly live.

  1. Who in your life has done a good job modeling the shepherding of Jesus? What about them is worth following and emulating?

  2. Read Ezekiel 34. How does this important passage serve as the backdrop to Jesus’ confrontation with the Pharisees?

  3. What current situations are you facing that cause you to feel unsafe? How can we help one another to experience the security that comes through the gospel?

  4. Where do the non-Christians in your life seek security and safety? How might this insight help you to share the gospel with them more effectively?

Prayer Points

  1. Pray that we would follow Jesus as our chief shepherd, both as a church and as individual disciples.

  2. Pray that God would give us opportunities to show the safety, love, and care of Jesus to a world that is desperately seeking for those things.
