Celebrating Women's Discipleship Event

Jesus used death to defeat the author of death. And then he assumed our sin upon himself to deliver us from our slavery to sin. He used the enemy’s own weapons to prevail over him and to crush his head.

On June 25th the women of Sound City gathered for a mini-conference featuring some talks from The Gospel Coalition Women’s Conference, including the one quoted above. By the end of the day, minds and hearts were full from feasting on rich teaching from speakers like Jackie Hill Perry and Jen Wilkin. There were times for discussing and digesting what was taught, as well as for prayer. We shared breakfast and lunch together as well, so all of us were spiritually, intellectually, and physically filled up by the afternoon!

One of the major highlights was an all women band that sounded amazing. They introduced a song that was new to us as Rachael, Jamie and Valerie sang out, “There is a Day coming when we will weep no more. All of our pain and sadness will turn to joy. Christ will return to us. Our hearts will rejoice in him, and no one will take our joy away, so we hold onto hope for we know that there is a day!”

A couple of women bravely shared personal testimonies that were moving and encouraging. There were women who were inspired to begin helping with future events and leading future Bible studies as well. Having women in our midst who are willing to share vulnerably and more women desiring to get involved in discipleship ministry together should be an encouragement to the whole church! This women’s discipleship day was a gift, and we look forward to future opportunities to grow together in Christ.
