Celebrating | Summer Outreach 2020

What a summer 2020 has been. The pandemic has brought so many changes to our every day lives, from the loss of jobs and school closures, to wearing masks and getting tested. One of the most difficult aspects of this global crisis, has been the isolation. As we try to find a new normal during this season, we can rejoice and take heart because of Jesus. Our King isn’t retreating, he is on the advance and calling us to his kingdom work.

During July, 22 people from Sound City joined in supporting an organization that Martha Lake Baptist had partnered with in the past. The Nourishing Network serves students and families in Edmonds School District, providing weekend, holiday, and summer meals to those in need. In the Edmonds School District alone, 650 students experience homelessness and 33% of all students qualify for free and reduced lunch federal programs. Altogether, the volunteers gave 94 hours packaging meals.

This is an incredible and often invisible need in our community.

Recently, a community group also adopted an apartment at the Vision House in Shoreline. They donated kitchen items and set up the apartment for a new family who had been living in their car.

In this difficult time, it is so encouraging to see the people of God rally together to serve those in need with the love of Jesus. Let’s pray that our Servant King would continue to draw our hearts to serve, to reach out, and to love our neighbors well in his name.
