In the summer of 2019, Pastors Aaron Gray and Jason Smith began conversations about how Sound City Bible Church and Martha Lake Baptist Church could work together for gospel ministry in the north Puget Sound region. Over the course of several conversations, the idea of merging the two churches together was introduced.
In October, these conversations began to be pursued in more earnest, leading to a series of meetings between the elder teams of both churches. On November 26, 2019, a Letter of Intent was signed by both churches, which began an official due diligence process for the merger. While the process was slowed by the Covid-19 crisis of 2020, the elder teams of both churches kept patiently working together toward the goal. This process culminated in votes by members of both churches in July of 2020. Sound City members were given 21 days to review the merger and give a vote of affirmation, which was finalized on July 8. The final, binding vote from the members of Martha Lake took place on July 11. The result of both votes was an affirmation of the merger.
On Sunday, July 19, the two churches will officially be one merged church called Sound City Bible Church, worshipping together at the property on Larch Way. This Sunday will be a special worship gathering to celebrate us coming together as one church family.
As a result of the merger, Steve Jones, Mark Myers, and Jason Smith from Martha Lake will join the Sound City elder team. Jason Smith will also be joining the church staff as the Pastor of Kids and Students.
We are extremely thankful to God for his guidance, grace, and wisdom throughout the process. Additionally, we are beyond excited to see what God has in store for us in the future. May God use this merger to make his name known throughout the north Puget Sound region!
