This past Saturday, one hundred women from Sound City Bible Church and Martha Lake Baptist Church attended our first ever Women’s Discipleship Gathering. The numbers exceeded hopes and expectations, making it clear that this is something that women in our community have been hungry for.
From all the planning, to the decor and food, and the teaching, the ladies put so much into it... The Lord really blessed the work of their hands and made this a wonderful event. The Holy Spirit was at work today.
The ladies in attendance ranged in age from roughly 19 to 90. Kaitlin Catlin helped to lead the discussion time at a table that included herself and a friend, as well as her mother-in-law and friends. They observed afterward what a blessing it was to interact and worship multi-generationally. Michelle Catlin, Kaitlin’s mother-in-law, said that she was so blessed and encouraged to see her daughter-in-law and other women of the next generation serving and leading in the area of women’s discipleship. They were not the only women to say that they appreciated the wide representation of ages present and draw encouragement from it.
The gathering was held at Martha Lake Baptist Church, and the time together included breakfast, prayer, singing, teaching and discussion. The theme for the day was 2 Peter 3:18 “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.” The women spent their time focusing on the value of robust Bible study in the life of a disciple, as inspired by the book Women of the Word by Jen Wilkin.
What a wonderful event! Thank you for ministering and engaging to the women of our church!
As Jen Wilkin says in the book, “The heart cannot love what the mind does not know.” By the end of the gathering, women of all ages left encouraged to know and love God more deeply, as he reveals himself in Scripture.
