An Opportunity to be a Good Neighbor

I absolutely love how after a fresh dusting of snow everything turns white. One of my favorite things about being in the snow is when you step outside and listen, everything is so peaceful and quiet. But, in the midst of the peace I also have thoughts in the back of my head like, “there are people living out in these freezing temps” or “I hope my elderly neighbors are doing okay”.

I want to encourage all of us to be safe during these conditions. Make sure you have candles, matches, extra batteries, and blankets available. But I also want to encourage us to be good neighbors. Here are a few ways we can practically show Jesus to our actual neighbors.

Being a Good Neighbor During Cold Weather

  • Pray! Pray for your neighbors and for the less fortunate in our communities.

  • Check-In. What a great opportunity to put on some snow gear and walk around the neighborhood checking in on your neighbors. Especially if you have elderly in your neighborhood, as they are particularly vulnerable in the freezing temps. It’s not so awkward knocking on your neighbors door when there's a good reason like checking in on them during a storm.

  • Help. If you see someone living out in the elements, this is extremely dangerous and even life threatening. There are many severe weather shelters in the area where they can go to stay warm. An option is to do a quick online search to find a shelter or dial 211 to find out about resources in the area.

If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday.
— Isaiah 58:10

With severe weather comes opportunities to be a light and represent Christ in our community. Please be safe out there Sound City, and spread a little love along the way.
