August 31st was a double header with the Family Hike to Spada Lake and the annual Golf Scramble. For the last several years, Sound City has hosted a golf scramble at the Nile Shrine Golf course. This outing is a great way to build relationships with other folks from church, with a neighbor, or a friend.
Golf provides a relaxed venue with a side-by-side team dynamic that is ideal for helping people step out of their comfort zone, and start a conversation with someone new. At Sound City, we value relationships and believe that whether we are gathered or scattered, every member is a missionary, as we share the gospel, serve those in need, and invite others into relationship with Jesus.
This year, part of the green fee and hole sponsorships went towards funding the outreach ministries of Sound City, including benevolence, student camps, and local events like thank you lunches for social workers or a back to school breakfast for teachers.
34 people played in the scramble, and one golfer shared that, “The person I invited was hesitant to come, but he had a great time the whole event.”
Beyond golf, Myeong Hong, who led the event, said he was encouraged to see that all the volunteers who came to help ended up staying the whole event for a time of fellowship and prayer.
We are thankful to God for this time of ministry, raising funds to bless our community, and the opportunity for some fun and relaxation on the course.
