Celebrating | Child Dedications

While child dedication is not one of the official ordinances of the church, it is a practice that we see examples of in scripture (1 Samuel 1:11). Even our Lord Jesus was dedicated as a child (Luke 2:22)! This week we are celebrating the six children who were dedicated to God by their families before the church this past Sunday — Mother's Day.

At Sound City Bible Church we don't practice infant baptism, but we do celebrate their birth with their parents by inviting parents to bring their little ones up on stage to introduce them to the church family. Dedication is an opportunity for parents to publicly pledge to raise their children in a God-honoring way (Proverbs 22:6) and for the church family to pledge to support them in the work of raising children (Galatians 6:2).

This past Sunday we were thrilled to see these six children dedicated! Each family introduced themselves and read a passage of Scripture that they had prayerfully selected to be a prayer of blessing, or vision for God's future work in the life of their child. We continue to pray for these families who have faithfully dedicated their children to the Lord, and we ask that you join us in asking God for wisdom and guidance for these parents as they give themselves to the God-honoring, yet challenging, kingdom work, of raising up their children according to God's Word.
