Discussion Questions
- How do you define “normal”? What are the presumptions you make based on assumed “normalcy” according to your cultural/ societal preferences? How do you imagine God sees our presumption of “normalcy”?
- Are you hospitable to everyone, equally? How do you plan your social calendar? Who do you invite into your home?
- What specific steps can you and your community group take to engage those from a different culture or class this week? What are some specific ways we can forsake our prejudices, comfort, and cultural preferences in order to more fully embrace the many different people living around us?
- Read Philippians 2:1-11. How does the Gospel equip us for the work of bringing together God’s transcultural community?
Action Item
Ask someone with a different cultural background from yours to share a meal and ask them to share how they experience this society, their faith, and God through their particular cultural lens. Really listen. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
