Knowing What & Why You Believe

  • Sound City Bible Church (map)

Sign up for this special three day training event designed to equip you with a better understanding of what you believe and why. At Sound City Bible Church we think it is so important for disciples of Jesus to grow in their ability to tell others about Jesus. This training is meant to build your understanding of your faith and, by extension, your confidence in sharing that faith with others. We know that this event will be an encouragement to all who participate.

This will be a three session training taught by Sara Boyd. Sara has an M.A. in Christian Apologetics from Biola University, and she has a wealth of knowledge to share. You will not want to miss this opportunity! If you can’t make it to all three sessions, don’t let that stop you from signing up. Any of these that you are able to participate in will be deeply enriching and well worth your while.

Session 1: Wednesday, June 23rd 6:30-7:30 The Bible

As Christians, we believe the Bible is our utmost authority, and we center our lives around what it teaches. That said, have you ever wondered how this ancient book came to be or how it is different from other religious writings? In this session we will dive into these questions, especially focusing on why the New Testament is reliable. We have good reasons for our confidence in the trustworthiness of Scripture, and this discussion will help us learn how to share this truth with others.

Session 2: Thursday, June 24th 6:30-7:30 The Resurrection

Why did Jesus have to die on the cross in the first place? If God is loving, couldn’t he have just forgiven our sin? How can any rational, intelligent individual believe that Jesus came back to life? The resurrection of Jesus is at the core of Christianity, yet these types of questions sometimes linger in the dusty corners of believer’s minds or serve as initial road blocks for unbelievers. In this session we’ll see why the cross is both logical and necessary, and we’ll learn how to discuss why the resurrection of Jesus is not only historically plausible but actually quite persuasive.

Session 3: Friday, June 25th 6:30-7:30 The Problem of Evil

If God is good and powerful, then why is there so much suffering in the world? This is a question that many believers struggle with, and is often one of the strongest objections that unbelievers voice in regard to Christianity. Come explore the truly good answers to this seemingly overwhelming quandary, and why the question itself actually points to the validity of Christianity. It may just be that people’s harshest critique of God is actually the greatest opportunity for gospel conversation!
