Advent Guide Week 4 | Dec 18-Dec 24

Read Acts 17:10-12

This story from the book of Acts speaks of the way that studying the scriptures and engaging the mind can lead to belief in the good news of Jesus. Imagine the riches we might find if we examined the scriptures daily with eagerness like the Bereans referenced in this passage. But it’s so easy to read the bible and superimpose our own ideas about what it says based on our culture, our experiences, our assumptions, or even our own personality. Christmas is a wonderful opportunity to remember the treasures God has hidden in scripture for those who would look for them, since so much of what we see in the Christmas story was foretold in the prophets of the Old Testament.

Discussion Questions

  • Have you experienced  a time in your walk as a Christian when the Bible suddenly became more dear to you or when a passage of scripture came alive to you in a new way?

  • Have you ever realized that the way you had pictured something from the Bible came from pop culture, tradition, or imagination and wasn’t actually in scripture?

  • Talk about the way that more thinking and not less thinking actually leads to deeper belief.

  • Pray that God would open your eyes
