It can be easy in the grind of daily life to forget the impact that generosity can have. When we forget, we miss out! Our joyful giving reflects God’s amazing generosity to us – he has given us everything in Jesus and adopted us as his own.
This Sunday we had an opportunity to hear an update from James and Kris with the Lynnwood DCYF office. Sound City has developed a relationship with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families in Lynnwood over the past few years out of love and concern for our community in general and foster children in particular. The focus of the update from Kris and James was the generosity drive that we did this past December, where the people of Sound City generously donated over $3,500 in gift cards!
Kris and James shared that these gift cards were used to help meet needs that might not otherwise be met, or even in small ways to offer some hope and comfort during a difficult time. The gift cards have been used for things like a young mother’s baby bassinet, a graduation gift for a teen that enabled her to buy household necessities for her first apartment, and Christmas presents for kids coming into care.
Coming out of our regular budget, Sound City has also provided a thank you lunch for the DCYF staff. These folks work incredibly hard to serve our local community in what can often be a thankless job. They are on the front lines protecting and caring for vulnerable kids in need. In building a relationship with the Lynnwood DCYF, Sound City has been able to not just minister to foster kids, but also the staff.
Thank you to James and Kris for joining us this Sunday! And thank you, Sound City, for your faithfulness in giving. Let’s take this opportunity to thank God for his generosity and love towards us and to pray for the foster children, families, and DCYF staff.
