Our covenant members, Sam and Shoushan, faithfully serve in their home country of Armenia, doing gospel ministry work. They recently traveled back to Armenia after a long stint of not being able to travel due to the COVID pandemic. As their community group prayed them out for safe travels Sam and Shoushan were making plans for what they assumed would be a normal trip: checking in, and bringing hope and encouragement to the ministry workers and many churches they have planted and have supported in Armenia over the years. You can read more about the gospel work they do on the International Missions section of our website. Unfortunately this trip will be much different then they had anticipated.
Recently enemy forces, including former ISIS members attacked the military as well as innocent civilians in Armenia resulting in many casualties. Men from all over are being asked to step up and defend their country, leaving women and children without financial support or protection. It is a tragic situation. Due to this war that has broken out in recent weeks there is a significant need among the families whose husbands have had to leave their homes and families to fight and defend. Sam and Shoushan have requested we come alongside them to pray for this situation and to offer financial support for these families as we feel led. They are able to purchase the needed items at local wholesale food markets to help support the local economy and meet the needs of the families who are in desperate need. They are currently looking to adopt 100 families to provide essential items like rice, flour, sugar, oil, pasta, beans, soap, toiletries, and cold weather clothing. Their goal is to raise $100 per month per family to meet this need.
How You Can Help
Please pray for peace in Armenia and for the fighting to end quickly. Pray for protection from a very real enemy and physical threat. Pray for the pastors, fathers, brothers, and sons who have been ripped from their homes and families to go to war defending their country. Pray for the women and children whose husbands and fathers have had to leave their homes to go fight and defend their country. And pray for health and protection for Sam and Shoushan in this difficult situation they face.
In an effort to support the families directly affected by these events we are asking you to prayerfully consider giving above and beyond your regular giving to help provide for their essential needs in this extremely difficult time. The church will be giving an initial immediate gift, and we’re inviting you into this missional support effort as well.
