The Advent season is a perfect time to practice generosity, because during this time we remember that “God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, CSB, emphasis mine). Generosity around the Christmas holiday is not merely a good idea or a time-honored tradition, it is a way to embody the very heart of the gospel. As such, we want to put before you, the people of Sound City, two specific avenues for you to practice generosity.
In order to collect all the gift cards and distribute them to the appropriate people, we are asking that all tags be returned by Sunday, December 17.
Vision House Giving Tree
We have been supporting the Vision House with a giving tree for several years now, and this year will be no different. Since 1990, Vision House has provided housing, support services and child care for homeless families with children. By bringing a gift card, you’ll be helping to directly support these families in need as they seek to get established, provide for their children, and have a memorable Christmas holiday.
Lynnwood Children’s Administration Giving Tree
As you likely know, many Sound City families are involved—in one way or another—with foster care. Over the past few years, we have worked to find ways to support our local Lynnwood CA (Children’s Administration) office, including providing appreciation lunches and partnering on information nights. This Christmas season, we want to add one more way to support them. When children are removed from their home due to either abuse or neglect, they often come into care with little more than the clothes on their back. It is up to the social worker or the eventual foster family to purchase clothes and other basic necessities to help make the transition for these children as smooth as possible. By providing gift cards to clothing stores, you will be helping to provide for the basic needs of children who are going through a difficult transition, and helping to support the staff of the Lynnwood OCA
Intentions and Actions
We know that the holidays get busy for everybody, but we are encouraging you to prioritize these opportunities. Translated: don’t let too much time go by so that you miss this opportunity to serve! In order to collect all the gift cards and distribute them to the appropriate people, we are asking that all tags be returned by Sunday, December 17. You can simply drop them off on Sundays at the connect desk with one of our volunteers, or stop by our offices Monday through Thursday, 9a—5p.
May God use our generosity this Advent season to show the heart of the gospel to those in need!
Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogant or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God, who richly provides us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do what is good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and willing to share, storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of what is truly life. — 1 Timothy 6:17-19 (CSB)
