Proverbs 29:25 says, “The fear of man is a snare, but the one who trusts in the Lord is protected.”
All experiences of the fear of man share at least one common feature: people are big. They have grown to idolatrous proportions in our lives. Since there is no room in our hearts to worship both God and people, whenever people are big, God is not. Therefore the first task in escaping the snare of the fear of man is to know that God is awesome and glorious, not other people.
In the book When People are Big and God is Small, Ed Welch uncovers the spiritual dimension of people-pleasing and points the way through a true knowledge of God, ourselves, and others.
Join us this summer as we read and discuss this book together. Beginning mid-May we will read approximately one chapter per week, (although you may move faster or slower as you choose.) Then we will gather one Sunday afternoon each month (June - August) to discuss what we are reading.
Not only is this an incredibly enriching read, but we are also looking forward to this opportunity to gather the women of the church and connect over the summer months. Register to let us know that you plan to purchase the book, read along, and stay in touch with us this summer.
Discussion dates: June 13 at 3pm, July 11 at 3pm and Aug 8 at 3pm
Please note that there will be no childcare offered.
