At Sound City Bible Church, we don't practice infant baptism. Yet, what we do find practiced, in both the Old Testament and the New Testament, is child dedication (1 Samuel 1:11, Luke 2:22). Even our Lord Jesus was dedicated as a child!
Through child dedication we celebrate new births and young children by inviting parents to bring their little ones up on stage to introduce them to the church family. More importantly, child dedication is an opportunity for parents to publicly pledge to raise their children in a God-honoring way (Proverbs 22:6), for the church family to pledge to support them in the work of raising children (Galatians 6:2), and for parents and church family alike to pray together toward that end.
During the dedication each family will introduce themselves and their child, read a Scripture relevant to their commitment to raising their child in the ways of God, and then we'll all pray together to dedicate these children to the Lord and dedicate ourselves to the work of raising these children according to God's word.
